The Great Escape
Physical UXManaging an escape rooms provides a'real-world lab' for observing human behavior and interaction design. Players are met with a complex system of 'clues' (affordances and signifiers) designed to guide them toward a solution. My role is to ensure this journey remaines enjoyable, mysterious, and satisfying.
Iterative Design & User Testing
By monitoring and assisting thousands of groups, I conduct what is essentially continuous, live usability testing. I analyse exactly where teams encounter friction that breaks their immersion. Using this data, I work to:
- Spot... moments when players consistently misinterpret clues.
- Iterate... over physical hints or room flow to bypass frustration without lowering the challenge.
- Analyse... players post-game reactions and feedback to improve the experience for future teams.
Innovation
This creative environment serves as a playground for developing digital products that streamline operations and enhance the atmosphere. I designed:
Live-Audio Scare Generator
A tool created to capture real-time spoken word and trigger environmental responses, heightening immersion.
AI Game Master
An innovative solution to provide contextual, automated guidance, ensuring that the clues feel like a seamless part of the narrative rather than a technical interruption.
